Think Clippy 2.0, but one that actually helps: it plans your day, keeps your tasks and notes, reminds you to drink water, closes distractions, and answers questions. What can Taby do right now?

Taby plans your day, keeps your tasks, notes and habits, runs focus sessions, closes distracting apps, reminds you of things, and shows your Google, Outlook or Apple calendar. You can talk to it: local voice listens in 8 languages and talks in 11, right on your computer, and Taby Cloud voice is very accurate in 100+ languages. It can also search the web, edit images (like blurring an email in a screenshot) and use the browser for you, with the free local AI too. Taby Cloud adds a bigger brain that’s a lot better in the browser, six personalities, and a phone web app at app.heytaby.com. Other AI agents like Claude and Codex can use Taby too.

What does the hardware do without the app or when it is not connected?

If Taby is powered on but not connected to the desktop app, it is mostly the little screen and personality layer. It can show its face and built-in animations, but it will not know your tasks, timers, reminders, AI chat, or day context.

Does it have to be connected to my Mac?

No. Taby gets power through USB-C from a Mac, wall adapter, monitor, or another USB power source. For the app connection, Taby can talk to your computer over USB-C or Bluetooth.

Is the GitHub open-source repo the same as the paid version?

No. The GitHub repo is more of a learning project for electronics, ESP32 basics, firmware flashing, wiring, 3D printing, and understanding how a small desk robot works. The paid Taby is the finished product with ready-made hardware, the polished desktop app, local AI and productivity features, updates, and the full out-of-the-box experience.

What platforms does Taby support?

Works on macOS & Windows and Linux (beta). The physical desk robot connects via Bluetooth or a basic USB-C cable, so it works with any computer and any monitor. No special hardware or adapters needed.

How does Taby attach to my monitor?

Taby uses a secure, non-damaging mount that sticks to your monitor bezel. No residue, no damage. It works with any monitor that has a bezel edge and takes seconds to set up.

Yes. Your tasks, notes, habits and day history stay on your computer, and the local AI runs there too. Nothing you write is used to train models. Taby Cloud runs under Zero Data Retention, so the AI providers behind it keep nothing after your request. The app only sends content-free usage stats, and you can turn that off in Settings.

Is Taby safe to download?

Yes. The Mac app is signed and notarized by Apple (Developer ID), and the Windows installer and every program file in it are code-signed by the publisher SIA TRIIIS. Download it only from heytaby.com/downloads. Taby runs its AI on your computer, needs no account, and only asks for the permissions a feature needs, like the microphone for voice.

Is Taby the same as Tabbie?

Yes. Taby used to be called Tabbie (tabbie.me). It is the same little assistant, now at heytaby.com under the Hey Taby name.

How much does Taby cost?

The desktop app and its local AI are free. Ask “when do I usually…” and Taby answers from the days it has seen.
Allowed & Blocked shows everything at a glance, and you can ask Taby what’s blocked.

A block can have allowed hours, and it understands an end like “until midnight” or “tomorrow at 9”.
Your calendar, the easy way. “Add a haircut on Tuesday at 11” lands on Tuesday and just saves, with Undo. Taby asks first when something isn’t clear, and “every Tuesday” really repeats.

Timers, alarms and reminder sounds

Ask for a timer and it rings. Plus a friendlier start and focus sessions that keep up with you.

Timers and alarms. Ask for a 10-minute timer or a 7:00 alarm, and it rings.
Reminder sounds. Pick Pop, Bubble, Chime or Twinkle in Settings → General, and repeat a reminder every hour from the Reminders page.
Ask “What can you do?” for things to try.

Home shows one thing at a time, the most important first, and walks you through Taby step by step.
Blocks close what they name straight away, and the Focus page lists everything that’s blocked, old website rules too, so you can remove them.
A focus session nudges you within seconds when you drift.
Ask about a note and Taby reads it. An edit shows exactly what changes before you approve it.
Screen-time answers use the names of your apps and sites and say when you used them. Taby says plainly that it can’t see your phone.
On a Mac, the notch opens when your pointer stops there, not when it just passes by.
Setup stays open until it’s finished, and opening Taby again brings you back to the same step.
Computers with less memory get the Light Brain, and while a Brain loads, Taby shows how far along it is.
Taby uses less memory: the voice on your computer lets go after 10 quiet minutes.
The Premium voice falls back to the voice on your computer when it can’t be reached.

Fixed

If your graphics card keeps crashing the Local Brain, Taby runs it on the processor instead. Loading can then take up to 5 minutes, or up to 10 on smaller computers.
If a Google Calendar sync or an update check fails, Taby says why.

Your day, your shortcut, a calmer Taby

More control over Today, your own chat shortcut, and a calmer face for your physical Taby.

Today, your way. Start a focus from any block on Today, take a block off the plan, or delete its task.
Your own chat shortcut. Choose a keyboard shortcut to open the chat in Settings → General. It’s off until you pick one.
Hold your physical Taby to ask, and the answer stays on it. When an answer is waiting there, tap once to hear it and again to open the chat.
A calmer physical Taby: pick calmer eye movement, or the Screen setting Important only, where the face only moves for answers, reminders and notifications. It comes with Taby software 1.2.0, offered in Settings.
On a Mac, Taby offers to move itself to Applications.

Improved

Delete a reminder or mark it not done, and moving one to a new time keeps its day.
Setup, sign-in and downloads go through your computer’s network settings, so they work behind a proxy or firewall.
Taby opens much faster on computers with a hard drive, and on a slow drive your first question waits instead of failing.
While your physical Taby’s software updates, its screen says UPDATING instead of freezing on a face.
When something fails, Taby tells us which step failed and its error code, never your words or your files. You can turn this off in Settings with Help improve Taby.

Fixed

If Taby’s assistant stops unexpectedly, it starts again by itself.
On AMD and Intel graphics cards, the Local Brain loads even when the card is busy.
In the small window, a note keeps its Ask and Delete buttons.

Google Calendar keeps syncing when one event can’t be read, and a failed sync says why.
Apple Calendar all-day events land on the right days, and editing a repeating Outlook event keeps it repeating.
Reinstall Taby’s software brings back a physical Taby that went dark after an update.
The Large Brain couldn’t start, so it’s off the list for now. If you chose it, Taby moves you to the Standard Brain.
