By meaning, not exact words
You remember what it was about, not how you wrote it. Taby searches your notes, tasks and reminders by what they’re about, so “the dentist thing” finds the note about your cleaning.
Smart search
Can’t remember what you called it? Ask Taby. It finds your notes, tasks and reminders by what they mean, and your files by name and the text inside.

The short answer
Most search needs the exact word. Taby searches by meaning: “find that note about the dentist” finds it, even if you wrote “cleaning on Tuesday”. New in Taby 1.0.14: one search box for your notes, tasks, reminders, chats and files. With the Local Brain, it all runs on your own computer.
Say it, Taby finds it
“Find that note about the dentist”
Finds it, even if you wrote “cleaning on Tuesday” and never typed the word dentist.
“What did I write about the plumber?”
Finds the note by what it’s about, not the exact words.
“Do I have a task about the taxes?”
Finds “fill in the tax forms” in your tasks.
“Is there a reminder about the car?”
Looks through your reminders and finds the one for the car service.
“invoice march”
Type it in the search box and Taby finds the PDF in your Downloads, by its name or the text inside.
“What does this contract say about moving out?”
Reads the file and answers, right on your computer with the Local Brain.
“dentst”
A typo or a missing accent no longer gets in the way as often.
“the chat about the trip”
Finds your earlier chats with Taby, next to your notes, tasks and files.
How it finds things
You remember what it was about, not how you wrote it. Taby searches your notes, tasks and reminders by what they’re about, so “the dentist thing” finds the note about your cleaning.
It isn’t only for English. Taby tested it in English, Latvian, Russian, German, Spanish and French. Talk or type, whichever suits the moment.
New in Taby 1.0.14
Press ⌘K on a Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows, press “/”, or use the search in Taby’s notch. One box looks through your notes, tasks, reminders and chats, plus your email summaries once you connect your email, and the files you allow.
Files stay off until you allow them. Then Taby uses your computer’s own search (Spotlight or Windows Search) in Documents, Desktop, Downloads and iCloud Drive or OneDrive, and finds files by name and the text inside.
Found the contract? Ask what it says. Taby reads PDF, Word, Excel, Pages and text files on your computer with the Local Brain, and answers in plain words.
Coming later: finding pictures by what’s in them, like “the picture with the white dog”. For now, pictures, videos and voice recordings are found by their file name only.
With the Local Brain, Taby’s search runs on your own computer, using Google’s EmbeddingGemma, a small open model. Your notes, tasks and reminders stay there, it works offline, and nothing is used to train models. File search uses the search your computer already has, and files stay off until you allow them.
Taby’s Local Brain needs 8 GB of memory or more (a graphics card on Windows). If you use Taby Cloud without it, the words you search for go to Taby’s server to be matched, and they aren’t kept.
